The HCPCS Level II Code Set is one of the standard code sets used for Medicare and other health insurance programs to make sure that medicare claims are processed in an properly and consistent manner. The HCPCS constitues two principal subsystems, called as level I and level II of the HCPCS. Level I of the HCPCS consists of CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), a numeric coding system maintained by the American Medical Association (AMA).
Level II of the HCPCS is a standardized coding system that is used mainly to identify products, supplies, and services that are not part of the CPT codes, such as ambulance services, prosthetics, orthotics, medical equipment and supplies when used outside a physician's office.
